The children of Loseley Fields win prestigious international science competition, 2024
Run by the Faculty of Natural Sciences at Imperial College London the competition was open to teams of young people of primary and secondary ages from schools, community and youth groups across the world. The purpose of the competition is to motivate young people to engage with science, to encourage them to work together as part of a team and to engage them in a fun activity that is motivated by their curiosity and drive.
Teams were asked to develop a new and innovative scientific solution to help achieve one of the United Nation’s Global Goals for Sustainable Development. To enter, teams had to create 5-minute film that outlines the goal they have selected which describes their innovative solution, explains the science behind their idea and illustrates how their idea would address the goal.
This year there was over 260 entries, with 60 in our primary phase. Following the submission of their video, our children were shortlisted to the final three and on Wednesday 17th April they went up to Imperial College London to present their idea to a panel of judges. Our entry was called Power to the People and aimed to tackle UN goal number 11 by forming a community solution to the climate crisis we are currently facing. We are thrilled to announce that our children were chosen as winners and proudly returned to school with a very large trophy!
