The School Day

It is important for children to have routines in place to give them a sense of security in school. This includes a predictable timetable where they know what is happening and when. It can be useful for parents to know the overview of the school day to help them to visualise what a day is like for their child in school.

Occasionally we have to make slight variations in the school day which the teachers communicate to their classes using a daily visual timetable.

The Start of the Day

School starts at 8:45am

We open the gates at around 8:35am to allow families to filter onto the playground for class doors to open at 8:40am and close at 8:50am. Whilst the school day starts at 8:45am, we find that having a 10-minute window for children to walk into class makes the transition into school a calm experience. If you arrive after 8:50am, you will be directed to the school office for your child to be marked in and sent to class. Registration in class closes at 9am.

On most days, you will see members of the school Senior Leadership Team and our Home School Link Worker on the playground. They like to welcome our children into school as well as be available should you wish to speak with them.

Playtime & Lunchtime

Being outside and playing with friends is an important part of your child’s school day. We try to get the children out in most weather so ask that they have appropriate outerwear for the season. Our playground is kitted out with permanent play equipment and other games are added to this at lunchtime to enable them to have a stimulating play.

Morning play is at 10:30am-10:45am for the whole school except Reception who continue their play-based learning through to lunchtime.

We have a staggered lunchtime so that we are able to give the children a large space to play in but it also ensures that the class support staff are able to supervise and play with their respective classes. It helps the children to have adults they know well out with them during this time to support with play and if they need support with friendships. There is a range of equipment outside as well as designated sports’ coaches running games. We also run indoor lunch clubs.
