Home Learning
At Loseley Fields, we really value the support of parents & carers with their children’s learning at home. When children are learning to read, regular practice at home is essential to build up their fluency and understanding, so our expectation is that children will read to an adult every day for 10-20 minutes. As they become more proficient in Years 5 & 6, they can do this independently. We provide reading record books for this to be tracked.
In Reception, teachers share a weekly newsletter which includes the topic and learning focuses that will be explored within the provision the following week on Seesaw. Phonics sound/s and/or tricky words we have learnt that week are uploaded for children to access at home. In addition, your child will have access to our online phonics programme ‘Bug Club’ where they can read a range of books and play games in line with the sounds they have learnt. We encourage all our children to read their reading book every night to build on their fluency and decoding skills, as well as practise their sounds and tricky words. Books are changed on a Tuesday and Friday, once a child has read three times.
From Year 2 upwards, children have access to the Times Tables Rock Stars website in order to practise the times tables they are taught in class. They will have set times tables to practise through a variety of games – it is really motivating way for the children to learn their tables in preparation for the Government’s Multiplication Tables Check at the end of Year 4. TTRS also has a free app that can be downloaded onto a phone or tablet.
In Year 2 and KS2, children are given a weekly spelling sheet in order to practise the spellings they are given in class this week. They will then be tested on those spellings in class the following week.
We use the online learning platform Seesaw for our topic-based home learning for Years 1-6. Each half term, teachers will post a grid of home learning activities for students to complete at home and then students will be able to post their work back on the platform. These tasks will include a range of English, maths, science, art and history/geography activities linked to the current class topic.
At Loseley, we pride ourselves on living our values of integrity, aspiration and compassion through everything we do, and our home learning is no exception. Each half termly grid will also include citizenship tasks, aimed at developing a sense of belonging to and contributing to the wider community. We want our children to become accustomed to doing things that don’t necessarily lead to a reward for them but that benefits others, something that underpins our entire curriculum.
All children will be issued with individual codes that allow them, with parental support as required, to access their class page on Seesaw. Here they will be able to access tasks, post work and hear feedback from their teachers. If you have any problems with accessing the Seesaw platform, please speak to you child’s class teacher and they will assist you.
