STEM Christmas WOW day

In the week before Christmas Year 1 were set three challenges by Santa. First we had to work out how many presents the elves needed to get for different countries. We had to work with a partner and use our maths skills to work out the missing number challenges. After that, we needed to investigate which materials were the most suitable for wrapping up the different presents. We had to think about the properties of the different materials. Was the tissue paper strong enough? Was the card flexible enough to go around the present? Would the transparent material be suitable? Finally, we had to make a sack that was big and strong enough to hold all the presents, but small enough to fit in Santa’s sleigh. Luckily some parents came in to help us with this last challenge!

We solved all the challenges and had a lot of fun.
